Show the earnings behind the machines

A shop can own impressive equipment and still leave little cash after payroll, tooling, repairs, and debt payments. Start with current financial statements and a clear record of what it costs to keep the machines productive.

Separate ordinary maintenance from a one time equipment purchase. A buyer will consider future replacement spending when deciding what the shop can support. Depreciation alone does not tell that story.

Put repeat work into context

Build a customer schedule showing revenue, margins, and order history. Identify work that depends on one purchasing contact or one large account. A full order book means less if the buyer cannot keep those relationships.

Document quoting, programming, inspection, and scheduling. If you do each of those jobs yourself, decide who can take responsibility before you start a sale process.

Prepare a shop transfer file

List equipment with ownership, financing balances, service history, and any leases. Explain how inspection records and customer specifications are stored. Clarify which certifications belong to the company and what a new owner must verify.

Keep employee and customer identities out of broad marketing. A qualified buyer can review detailed records through a controlled diligence process after confidentiality and financial screening.

Before you accept a price

Discuss how equipment, inventory, working capital, and real estate enter the offer. A price that includes all of them is different from one that requires the buyer to pay extra at closing.

A valuation conversation can help you see which earnings adjustments are supported and where a buyer may question the transfer. Keep the shop performing while the sale is being considered.
